Let's Talk About Cellulite and Small Changes that Help
Let's Talk Cellulite, Ladies. It's that stuff that many of us, around 90% of women in fact, wish we didn't have and curse ourselves profusely when bathing suit and shorts season comes around and we have to face the dreaded truth of the dimpled cellulite on our thighs.
But really, if 90% of us has it then why are we still so embarrassed by it? Research shows that cellulite is caused by genetics and hormones that affects our connective tissues. Often times it bears no reflection on how much we exercise, how clean or poorly we eat, how long we sit, or even our body fat. There are many pictures you can find online of very, very fit women with abs of steel and cellulite on their behinds. C'est la vie. Embrace it, don't hide it, it's life! We women are so hard on ourselves.
Having said that, it is only very recently that I can actually take this advice myself. I exercise daily and am obsessed about eating clean and healthy. I have hidden my thighs for as long as I can remember since my teenage years when this dimply stuff first appeared. Ugh. Only recently on a family vacation to Hawaii did I feel confident enough to walk up and down the beach (with people I actually knew walking behind me!) in my bikini without hiding my thighs. I still wouldn't be happy with anyone snapping any photos from behind mind you. Baby steps, baby!
So now that we have established that cellulite is the NORM and that it isn't a reflection of your lifestyle, there are still things we can do and use to make some small changes today to make us feel better and more confident to bare all this summer.
1. Exercising and reducing body fat will improve the appearance of cellulite and help tone your muscles, not to mention all the other health benefits for your body and mind. Focus on cardio and strength training, as you need both. It can be as simple as walking for 30 minutes every day and doing 20 squats. Just do something to get moving.
2. Eating a diet that is clean ~ full of fresh vegetables and fruit, lean protein sources, healthy grains, and cutting out processed foods that come in a box or package or are fried. This means packing a lunch and snacks and food to go so that you can always make healthy choices. If you are new to eating clean, check out Tosca Reno or great ideas on Pinterest.
3. Massaging and stimulating the area with cellulite to encourage blood and lymph flow in the body. You can do this with dry brushing before your shower and by using a Coffee Body Polish in the shower. Cellulite and caffeine are enemies and the coffee grinds tighten the area and provide antioxidants to the skin when applied topically. When applied religiously every day, it has been shown to reduce the appearance of cellulite—especially over time.
Bottom line ladies (no pun intended), we may never rid our bodies of the stuff but at least we aren't alone and are well equipped with some healthy strategies to make us feel like we can strut our stuff this summer with our heads held high and our thighs a little less jiggly.

This is a common question that I get asked. With the uprise of facial oils in Western Society, it is a good one to ask for certain. Whether you have oily, acne prone skin or dry skin, you may also be wondering about the facial oil hype and whether or not it is the right skincare solution for you. The magical panacea you have been longing for perhaps. On the flip side, I've even had some people have a complete meltdown as an adult when oil touches their face because they still remember being covered in pimples as a teenager just for coming anywhere near oil on their sensitive, hormonal faces.
If you haven't yet introduced any facial oils into your skincare ritual, I highly recommend you overcome your fears and embrace the oil. In fact, in Eastern cultures women have been using plant based oils abundantly for thousands of years. And their gorgeous, youthful complexions certainly show it.
