This blog post is all about that embarrassing stink and what to do about it. Most of us have suffered at some point in our life with an embarrassing episode of body odour, so fondly referred to as BO. The dreaded BO.
Did you know that some people cannot smell their own BO?
Did you know that body parts, other than your armpits, can develop a stink from bacteria just like your armpits?
Did you also know that a small percentage of the population just doesn't use or need it at all because they don't sweat and apparently they smell like roses.
All. The. Time.
Well if none of these sound like you, then read on for more Facts and FAQ's about body odour and how to tackle it naturally.
Anti-Perspirant vs. Deodorant
What is the difference? Anti-perspirant is designed to stop you from perspiring. It uses aluminum in order to do that plus a host of other chemicals and fragrances to mask any smell that emerges from your armpits. For many people it doesn't work and they still get body odour after a few hours of wearing their aluminum filled (even at full prescription strength!) anti-perspirant (this was me before I started to create my own natural formulation! Ouch that stuff burns badly at 20% aluminum chloride!). Deodorant doesn't stop you from sweating because your body NEEDS to sweat to regulate body temperature and to eliminate all the toxins (from food, environment, personal care products hmmmmm like the toxins in anti-perspirant!) from your body. When you stop your body from sweating, you are trapping in all those toxins right where you need your body to be "clean and free" from them near your breast tissue and your lymph nodes. The delicate area of the armpit that can put you at risk for developing breast and other cancers so think about what you are putting on them and straight into your blood stream and organs.
What is that penny smell?!
Ever gone for a run, hot yoga or workout and you smell pennies under your armpits? Guess what that is? It is the aluminum and other chemicals in your anti-perspirant mixing with the bacteria in your sweat and having a funky reaction that smells like copper pennies. It could also be your diet impairing proper digestion, yeast imbalance, or a liver that needs to detox.
What to expect when you switch from anti-perspirant to natural deodorant?
Well first of all, expect to be healthier! If you make one change to your personal care routine to be "cleaner" then start with your deodorant. You may actually find you sweat (more than before) and that is ok. It is your body detoxing and the sweat should not smell if you are using an effective natural deodorant. Your body may go through a detox period of 2-3 weeks where you will think it isn't working for you, you may develop a rash or redness, or experience some other unusual issues. If you develop a rash then stop using the deodorant until it clears up and instead just use organic virgin coconut oil. It is anti-bacterial and will help to soothe the underarms.
So how about foot odour? Or private part odour? Or how about that little crease in your waist or under your boobs that collects a sweaty odour?
I have many clients who tell me that they use our Clean Kiss Organics natural deodorant on their smelly feet, put a swipe between their boobs before they put on their bra, and even wipe it on the exterior of their girl or boy parts to prevent the body odour that comes from stress or workout sweat. This is all perfectly safe as long as you using it only externally and never apply it on broken or rash skin.
Now you can be confident that you are putting something healthy on your body that will actually work! You don't have to be afraid, feel excluded, avoid exercise, or stress about body odour. We guarantee it actually and will happily give your money back if you are not satisfied.
