New Year, New Skin Care Regime (and a glowing skin recipe too!)

Green Juice for Glowing Skin

So many of us decide to take on new challenges and resolutions for the new year. For the vast majority of us these include setting new health goals or recommitting ourselves to lose weight, get in shape, eat healthier, etc. We set these goals so that we can feel better about ourselves both inside and out. And trust me when I tell you that I am among the group of you that do this each year. I am often very committed and stick to my new years resolutions (at least for a good period of time!) and it's a good feeling to do so. It motivates me to set these goals and I look forward to starting the new year off right.

What I find is often overlooked is setting a new skin care regime as a goal. May sound funny right? But think about this for a moment. The cosmetics and plastic surgery industry is a multi-million dollar money making machine. So many of us are in search of our youth and want to be more attractive and healthier which is why we want to lose weight and get fitter. What if I told you that you can accomplish some pretty lofty "fountain of youth" skincare goals through two fairly easy ways:  first switching to an all natural, plant based skincare line that does without any harsh chemicals and second by eating clean (and I really mean clean at least 80% of the time).

Let's tackle the first one about a natural skin care regime. Ask yourself "Do I take the time that my skin deserves to preserve its youthful appearance?" "Do I always remove my makeup before bed?" "Wear sunscreen everyday?" "Do I read labels to ensure you I am using natural and clean ingredients in my skincare and makeup?". "Do I do facial yoga?" (Ok kinda kidding on the last one. Not sure who has time for that although I have read the many benefits of doing so!).  Now I'm not suggesting you go out and replace your entire skincare regime in one swoop, but I do suggest that you slowly replace all of your chemical products with natural, plant based ones. I promise you that your skin will notice it and thank you with a more youthful and natural glow. Set a goal for yourself for 2017 to start doing one or two of these self-care skincare routines each day.

Our skin is a direct reflection of our diet. If you eat crap, sorry but it shows up as crap on your face (dry uneven skin tone, acne, wrinkles, lack lustre appearance). If you want that healthy "glow" where people always ask you what you use on your skin, then eat well and it will pay you back in spades.  You need to include a clean diet full of antioxidant rich foods that fight free radicals (those are the things that age us and make us unhealthy). Think green leafy vegetables (spinach, dark lettuces, broccoli),  berries, nuts and seeds, healthy fats (avocados yum).

I am a huge fan of green breakfast protein smoothies to get my greens and antioxidants. My favourite blend includes 2 cups of baby spinach or kale, 1 cup almond or coconut milk, berries, chia and/or flax seeds and vegan protein powder.  I have been itching to try juicing for some time now and finally invested in a good quality juicer.  My intention is to start my 2017 days off with a green juice before my morning coffee to give me healthier energy and a good dose of antioxidants.

Here is the green juice recipe I plan to try and hope you will share back with me your favourite green juice recipes!

1 green apple

1/2 cup cucumber

2 celery stalks

1/2 lemon

1 inch ginger root

1 cup baby kale

1 cup baby spinach

1/4 cup parsley

Enjoy!
